Practice Greenhealth has recognized UC Davis Health as a national leader in environmental sustainability for the fourth year.
“This is the highest level of national recognition we can receive for leadership in sustainability, and I am incredibly proud that we continue to be recognized with this distinction,” said Kristina Bair, sustainability director.
The UC Davis Arboretum is transforming six acres in West Village into the West Village Habitat Corridor, a native habitat of California meadows, oaks, and shrubs that supports wildlife and climate resilience while preserving views of the Coast Ranges. Planting starts this fall, and temporary fencing will stay up for about a year, so the community is asked to keep out while the seedlings take root.
The Arboretum turns 90 this year, but it almost didn't. A new UC Davis Magazine feature explores how generations of students, staff, faculty, volunteers and supporters transformed an underfunded garden into a beloved campus jewel and living laboratory—pioneering ideas that now advance climate resilience, student well-being and environmental leadership far beyond Davis.
Strategic collaboration and dedicated volunteers made the 6,000-attendee TGFS event officially zero waste. Over 20 student volunteers hand-sorted 800+ lbs of waste at four stations, achieving 93% waste diversion—only 7% went to landfill.
Each year, UC Davis Health celebrates Earth Month with different events and programs throughout the month, and this year is no different.
The sustainability team welcomes you to join them at a variety of fun programs, including Earth Month Bingo, a Light Rail Field Trip, a Sustainability Walking Tour, and an exciting Earth Month Celebration.
