What is the Water Wise Challenge?
This challenge is part of the UC-wide Cool Campus Challenge program - a series of inter- and intra-campus challenges that bring awareness and action to various sustainability issues.
This event will be a two week challenge designed to educate and motivate students, staff, and faculty to commit to pledges to save water and learn about water preservation and current topics related to water usage.
When will the challenge happen?
The challenge will launch on Monday, May 16th and close on Friday, May 27th.
Who can participate?
Students, staff, and faculty are all invited to be a part of this challenge! Anyone with a Davis email can participate!
Where will it take place?
Water conservation and awareness needs to be a priority everywhere. So, the pledges in the challenge can be done anywhere! On campus, in the dorms, at home, in your office, or anywhere you are.
How do I participate?
Click the link below or navigate to www.coolcampuschallenge.org/WaterWiseUCD to access the Cool Campus Challenge platform, where you can complete actions related to water conservation. Answer the prompts for each pledge to earn points and upload photos to earn bonus points!
Challenge details:
- Go to www.coolcampuschallenge.org/WaterWiseUCD
- Sign up by entering your @ucvdavis.edu email address
- Click on the Actions link in the menu and check out the pledges
- Complete as many pledges as you can! Upload photos to earn even more points. The more points you earn, the more prizes you'll be eligible to win!
- Complete as many pledges as you can by by 11:59pm on Friday May 27, 2022.
- Top scoring individuals will receive prizes, and all participants will also be entered for a raffle by just reaching 700 points.
What is the purpose of the points?
Earn 2000 points to be included in a raffle for a reusable straws and utensil set, or score over 4000 points to get a chance to win a Cool Campus Challenge tote bag! The top 5 scorers at the end of the challenge will receive a gift bag with: a t-shirt, a tote bag, a reusable bag, reusable utensil and straws, and stickers and pins. All winners will be contacted via email to claim their prizes.

The Problem
We are very dependent on water. However, most people don't know enough about where our water comes from or how much each of us is using and potentially wasting on a daily basis. Not only does the current record-setting drought that California is experience directly affect those in agriculture and livestock, it will also both indirectly and directly affect the entire population of California. Changing environments mean we must adapt and change to ensure we do not worsen the current situation.
The Solution
One of the goals of this Challenge is to motivate ourselves to change daily lifestyle habits and reduce both our direct and indirect water usage. Although the impact from one individual is small, continually encouraging our communities to commit to conservation could start the process of improving the water situation we are all in.
