Focus the Nation UC Davis

The 2% Solution Focus the Nation Webcast

January 30, 2008
Intros & Webcast 4:30-6:00 pm, Discussion starts at 6:00
Veterans Memorial Center Theatre, 203 East 14th Street, Davis

The 2% Solution Webcast will focus on the need to decrease carbon emissions by two percent each year for the next 40 years. This will help reach the goal scientists advocate of 80 percent reduction by 2050. The Webcast will feature segments from actor and activist Edward Norton, Florida Governor Charlie Crist and Stanford University and international climate scientist Stephen Schneider.

The Webcast will be proceeded with comments by UC Davis Vice Chancellor John Meyer and Davis City Manager Bill Emlen. A live panel discussion during the web cast will feature Hunter Lovins, chief executive of Natural Capitalism; Van Jones, green jobs pioneer and president of the Ella Baker Center in Oakland; Dr. Penelope Canan, professor of sociology at the University of Central Florida; and Praween Dayananda with the Energy Action Coalition and a recent graduate of Pomona College.

During the Webcast, participants will be able to send in cell phone text messages on how they would spend $100 billion in a clean energy revolution. Messages will be visible on the Earthday Network TV, who will broadcast The 2% Solution Webcast.

Later, the UC Davis Sustainability Advisory Committee and city representatives will discuss their actions and programs. Q&A about the topics and Focus the Nation will close the program.

This Webcast is a result of the Davis City Council's support for public education and outreach to address climate change. For more information, call (530) 757-5602.
