Water

Water Usage

Most of the water used by the campus is produced by pumping water from underground water supplies known as aquifers. Groundwater from a deep aquifer is used for domestic and drinking water, and a shallow/intermediate aquifer is used for irrigation water. Approximately 40 campus buildings are metered.

Wastewater and Storm Water Management

The campus generates 1.8 million gallons of wastewater daily. Reclaimed water is used on some lawn landscaping at the campus wastewater treatment plant. Water quality monitoring during wet weather occurs at several points in the Arboretum before the water is pumped into Putah Creek.
